Story Of My Life
“When you know what you want, and want it bad enough, you will find a way to get it”, Jim Rohn. I’m a person who tries his best to get what I want. When I was in Mexico I wanted to come to the United States but my parents did not want to let me come because they thought I was too young to live without them. Like every person I have goals, I want to become a better and educated person. I’ve done many things to achieve my goals and i’ve been through many obstacles to achieve them.
When I first started to think about coming to the United States my mom was trying to take that out off my mind because she didn’t want to see her son leave her. Even though she knew I was going to live with her sister she didn’t want to let me come because she thought I was too young to deal with that responsibility. When I was in 7th-9th grade I started to get good grades because I wanted to be the best one in my class and I wanted my family to be proud of me. I used to get diplomas for being the one with the highest grades in my class. I was glad to see my parents proud of me.
My goals were to come to the United States, learn english and graduate from high school but my parents’ decision was for me to stay in Mexico and study there. In the town I used to live in most of the people just finish Middle School and if they go to High School they end up dropping out. I didn’t want to just stop at middle school or high school. My goal was to go to college but it was hard to get there because it’s too expensive and it was far away from where I lived. My dad worked in the fields and he didn’t have good paying job so the money he got paid it was to buy food only.
Finally, it was until my sophomore year second semester when I talked to my parents and I told them that I had goals and dreams in my life but I wasn’t going to make them come true or develop them if I kept living there, so I asked them again if I could come to the United States to study and have a better education and they finally said yes. I was so happy that day and then two weeks later I traveled from Michoacan to Tijuana by myself. After that, my aunt picked me up and took me with her to San diego, California. Finally, she brought me to Lindsay California and left me with my other aunt.
The first weeks living without my family was too sad. I missed them so much but I knew I had to make sacrifices to achieve my goals. I was so happy and nervous because I was finally going to start school in the United States. School was about to end but I still went to Lindsay High School. School was totally different as the one I was attending in Mexico but I had to get used to it. School was really hard for me because it was hard to complete an assignment without knowing english. Even though I had someone to help me, I thought I wasn’t going to make it. I was even thinking to go back to Mexico but then I thought how was my family going through economic problems and I decided to stay here and keep trying as much I could.
One day my mom called me saying that she was going to come to the United States but she only had to get the permit. My junior year finally started and I learned enough english to get done with my assignments and have little conversations with my teachers. During my junior year I was trying my best to not fall behind pace and I was learning more english. I decided that I wanted to study in the medical field in my junior year. I felt so proud because I was achieving my goals and because I overcame too many challenges that I had since I moved from Mexico. It wasn’t until my junior year second semester when my mom finally got the permit and came to the Unites States with my siblings.
My junior year was about to end and I was done with all my classes on time. During my junior year I was involved in many activities as talent show, concert choir, scicon, Red Zone and many others. Being involved in activities helped me to participate and feel comfortable in this school. Scicon helped me to increased my ability to speak english because I was a counselor and I had to speak only english with other students. My senior year has just started and I have been doing very well in my classes. I’m involved in many clubs already and cross country. To begin developing my career in the medical field, i’m going to take CNA this school year. I expect CNA to help to learn the basics skills that are going to help me when I get to college.
Now I’m a person who has achieved its goals before coming to the United States. One of those goals was to come to the United States and learn english. My goals in progress are graduating from high school, go to college and get a job. I learned to become more independent and trust myself. My family motivates me to keep trying my best to achieve my goals. I expect myself to overcome any challenges that I will face in the future and never give up for tiny obstacles.
